I posted the following on my Facebook page after my adult students played for their peers yesterday over Skype. Their performances were beamed from London, England; Sydney, Australia; near Asheville, North Carolina; Prospect, Kentucky; Chico, California, and Berkeley, home of the esteemed university.
“Heartfelt music sharing in the wake of a tragic loss of Parisian life represents the distinct human will to defeat evil by creating beauty.
“An autumn bouquet landing on my doorstep was by its timely arrival, more than a recital celebration. Its full bloom splendor affirmed hope in the face despair.
“So if music can fuel Love (and life) as well, then play on…” (paraphrase Shakespeare)

Our Video: Part One, captured the raw reality of orchestrating a world-wide Internet-driven music-sharing with its built-in challenges.
With alacrity I panned my iPhone about a set of computer-filled boxes that contained players who appeared and disappeared like Jack Rabbit, often fading in and out with echoes trailing after them. Yet once the recital officially commenced, all loose ends came together and students PLAYED with dedicated love for the piano that permeated each and every performance.

Part ONE launches a series of segments that will flow out of our SECOND Bi-Annual “recital” over Skype. Our sharing took place, November 14, 2015 at 11:45 a.m. from the West Coast; 2:45 p.m. in Kentucky and North Carolina; 7:45 p.m. in London, England, and 6:45 a.m. SUNDAY in Sydney, Australia.
The agony and ecstasy of planning and producing such an event has earned its own tribute.

TO MY STUDENTS:
“Thanks to all of you for your heartfelt playing. What most moved me was not how many right notes you played, but what warmth and love you communicated.
“So keep growing without self-judgment, and preserve your perspective about inch by inch growth.
“And with that said, I congratulate each and every bud to blossom piano student. What a divine privilege it is to work side-by-side with you over weeks, months and hopefully years to come.”

What a terrific display of talent and commitment! Congratulations to you and all your students.
Goodness me. Has it been a year already? What a treat to watch you all play and see how those of you who played last year have blossomed further. I just love that Shirley has gathered you all together from around the world for this uplifting display of musical endeavor. So looking forward to next year’s event and I know it is not nearly as faraway as it feels right now.
Hi Robin, Thanks for your wonderful feedback. Actually our last one was March 15, 2014 so it’s been about 8 months. Yes, I was thrilled at the musical growth of these very enthusiastic adult students.. We will try for twice a year which is a nice goal setter.
